Nasscom to open start-up warehouse in Chhattisgarh.

IT industry body Nasscom is all set to open its start-up warehouse initiative in Chhattisgarh. This is the third start-up incubator that Nasscom plans to start, with an eye to encourage entrepreneurship.

A start-up warehouse is aimed at incubating tech start-ups. Nasscom opened its first tech start-up initiative in Bengaluru in 2013 and opened another one a few weeks later in Kolkata. The West Bengal Government has provided 10,000 sq feet of space to house the programme.

Aman Singh, Principal Secretary, Department of IT, Government of Chhattisgarh, told BusinessLine that the IT industry body wants to replicate its start-up warehouse success in the State and this will come up in New Raipur, which is its largest city. 'We have 30,000 engineers graduating every year and a lot of them have an entrepreneurial steak which fits in with Nasscom's vision,' he added.

Nasscom aims to nurture 10,000 start-ups in the next 10 years and give a major boost to software product development in India. The start-up warehouse will provide a well-connected, lop-class office space for technology start-ups, and will support entrepreneurs in their early stage of operations as well as act as a hub for innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship, according to Nasscom officials.

According to a recent Nasscom report, India is the fourth largest base for young businesses in the world with more than 3,100 tech start-ups. Further, this is expected to increase to 11,500 by 2020 and the industry is expected to create about 2,50,000 jobs in the next five years. Last year 800 start-ups came up, according to Nasscom.
