Nasscom ropes in Booz Allen to study engg services space

Pune: India's skills in the software services space have been well acknowledged and now it is time to move on to other segments which can bring in the moolah to the country.

For this, the National Association of Software and Services Company (Nasscom) has roped in international consultant Booz Allen Hamilton to do a study on the booming engineering space.

Talking to presspersons, Mr Kiran Karnik, President, Nasscom, said the report by Booz Allen Hamilton is expected to be out by next month. This would act as a catalyst for the companies looking at India as their outsourcing destination and also chalk out a road map for the companies as to what to look for.

He pointed out that in the software services space India has established itself and it is the engineering services sector which is slowly making its presence felt in the global arena. The last couple of years have seen many of the international giants setting up their base in the country to either outsource or act as a captive research and product development centre. He said the global outsourcing figure is put at $1.2 billion.

Mr Karnik said Nasscom already had set up a special forum to help the domestic engineering service providers exploit the potential for engineering services offshoring and outsourcing.
