MRPL Secures Prestigious Innovation Award from Petroleum Ministry

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) has once again emerged as the recipient of the coveted 'Best Innovation in Refinery' award, a prestigious accolade presented by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for the fiscal year 2022-23. This achievement comes after MRPL faced formidable competition from industry giants, including IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL.

According to an official media statement, MRPL's triumph in securing this award is attributed to its groundbreaking patent for an energy-efficient hydrocarbon distillation process. The innovative proposal, developed by MRPL's dedicated research and development team, underwent rigorous scrutiny. The Centre for Higher Technology initially reviewed the proposal, and the final evaluation was conducted by the esteemed Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC). Notably, the SAC featured distinguished scientists, among them Anil Kakodkar, representing the heads of esteemed institutions such as CSIR labs and IITs.

The award presentation ceremony took place at the Energy Technology Meet 2023 in New Delhi, where the accolade was handed over to a team led by MRPL's Managing Director, Sanjay Varma. The honor was bestowed by the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, signifying the exceptional contributions and ingenuity of MRPL in the realm of refinery innovations.
