"Motovolt Mobility Eyes Manufacturing Facility in South Expansion Move"
Motovolt Mobility, a Kolkata-based electric vehicle manufacturer, is considering the establishment of a manufacturing facility in South India as part of its expansion plans in the electric two-wheeler segment.
Following the launch of a multi-utility e-scooter in Kolkata on Tuesday, the company revealed its intentions to introduce an electric motorcycle next year.
The current production of the e-scooter, Motovolt M7, takes place at Motovolt's Kolkata facility, where the company has invested approximately ₹100 crore. The development of the electric scooter involves collaboration with Germany's eROCKIT. Motovolt aims to sell 30,000 e-scooters this year, while eROCKIT explores opportunities to introduce the M7 in European markets.
Tushar Choudhary, Founder & CEO of Motovolt Mobility, announced plans for further investment of ₹300 crore in the EV business over the next few years. The company intends to launch more electric two-wheeler products, including electric motorcycles using German technology.
Established in 2019, Motovolt holds a 10% stake in the German electric two-wheeler maker eROCKIT.
Choudhary disclosed that the electric motorcycle production will commence at the Kolkata facility in the initial phase. However, the company is considering an alternative location outside Kolkata for expanding its manufacturing capacity in the next few years. South India has emerged as a potential location for the new manufacturing facility, indicating Motovolt Mobility's strategic vision for growth and diversification in the region.
