"Mother Dairy Announces Plans for New Dairy Plant in Maharashtra"

Mother Dairy, a prominent player in India's dairy industry and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board, has unveiled plans to establish a new dairy plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra, with a substantial investment of approximately ₹500 crore. This move is part of the company's broader investment strategy, targeting an outlay of around ₹700 crore over the next few years.

The Managing Director of Mother Dairy, Manish Bandlish, shared insights on the company's ambitious expansion plans, emphasizing their recent approval from the board to invest the substantial sum. The new plant in Nagpur will focus on the production of dairy and value-added dairy products and is expected to function as a hub to serve both Western and Southern regions.

Last year, Mother Dairy already boosted its manufacturing capacity in the dairy and value-added dairy products segment by 20-25 percent, and the forthcoming plant is anticipated to further enhance the company's production capabilities by 15-20 percent within this segment. Furthermore, the company is eyeing the establishment of a new plant in Karnataka in the food processing sector.

In the fiscal year 2023, Mother Dairy reported an impressive 17 percent increase in revenue, reaching ₹14,500 crore. This growth was largely attributed to a significant 16-17 percent surge in volume. Despite adverse weather conditions impacting summer sales, post-August, the company witnessed robust growth rates. Manish Bandlish noted that even seasonal categories like ice creams experienced an uptick in sales, along with strong consumption trends during the current festival season.

Mother Dairy is not only focusing on expanding its manufacturing footprint but also on innovation, with a promising pipeline of new products in categories such as bakery, ice creams, paneer, and various value-added items. The company has set an ambitious target of launching 100 new products over the next three years and is on track to achieve this goal.
