Moragahakanda work begins

Colombo: The Moragahakanda project will go ahead with immediate effect after the restraining order on its construction was quashed by the Supreme Court Friday.

Agriculture Development Minister Maithripala Sirisena said work will begin immediately on the massive project, which envisages the construction of two large reservoirs by damming the Amban Ganga to provide irrigation water to the North Central Province and Trincomalee.

Rs.800 million has been allocated for the project for the first two years.

The total estimated cost for the seven-year project is US$ 171 million.
