"Modi 3.0 Marks 100 Days: 14GW RE Bids Announced, 6GW Capacity Commissioned"
In its first 100 days, the current government has made significant strides in the renewable energy sector, with the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) announcing 14 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy bids and commissioning 6 GW of capacity, according to the Centre.
Between June and August 2024, Renewable Energy Implementing Agencies (REIAs) issued procurement bids for 14 GW of renewable power, surpassing the target of 10 GW. Simultaneously, 6 GW of renewable capacity was commissioned, exceeding the 4.5 GW target, said Pralhad Joshi, Minister of New & Renewable Energy.
India's cumulative non-fossil fuel capacity now stands at 207.76 GW, further underscoring the government's renewable energy momentum, Joshi noted. Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, 11 companies were selected to manufacture 1,500 MW of electrolysers annually in the second tranche.
Among other key developments, two solar parks were completed, 100,000 solar pumps were installed under the PM KUSUM scheme, and 3.56 lakh Rooftop Solar systems were installed under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. Additionally, solar module production under the Solar PLI scheme reached a cumulative 13.8 GW.
Joshi reaffirmed India's ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil power capacity by 2030, highlighting the country’s position as a global leader in renewable energy. With favorable policies like the PLI Scheme, 100% FDI under the automatic route, and financial incentives for green energy projects, India ranks fourth globally in installed renewable capacity.
Citing PM KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana as game-changing initiatives, Joshi emphasized their role in benefiting farmers and low-income households, with plans to further accelerate renewable capacity growth in the coming years.
