MNRE to set up 1,000 MW wind power projects.

The Ministry for New & Renewable Energy recently launched a scheme for setting up 1,000 MW of wind power projects connected to the transmission network of Central Transmission Utility to provide wind power to non-windy states at a price discovered through a transparent bidding process.

In an official statement, the Ministry said that it has designated Solar Energy Corporation of India as a nodal agency for implementation of the scheme.

“The scheme will encourage competitiveness through scaling up of project sizes and introduction of efficient and transparent e-bidding and e-auctioning processes. It will also facilitate fulfilment of Non-Solar Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) requirement of non-windy states,” the statement added.

The projects will be set up by wind project developers on a build, own and operate basis. If there is additional demand from distribution utilities of non-windy states, the capacity may go higher than 1,000 MW.
