Ministry begins harbor deepening project

Male: Ministry of Construction and Public Infra Structure has embarked on a project to deepen the harbors of various islands previously constructed by the ministry.

Ministry revealed that under the project, harbor of Bilehdhoo of Faafu atoll and the harbor of Kurendhoo of Lhaviani atoll has been deepened using excavators and barges. Ministry said Kaditheemu harbor of Shaviani atoll will be next but work will commence as soon as excavators and barges used in Lh. Kurendhoo is positioned there. Ministry also revealed that equipments are already on the way.

Ministry also revealed that it has purchased a dredger to be used for harbors where excavators would be unsuitable. Ministry said that the dredger which is currently in Thilafushi will speed up the deepening of harbors set for this year.
