Mangalore should get another industrial area: KCCI

Mangalore: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the State Government to set up another industrial area near Mangalore.

In the area, industrial areas are present at Baikampady, Yeyyadi and Karnad.

The newly elected President of KCCI, Mr Srinivas S. Kamath, said many small and medium entrepreneurs are in need of land for setting up units in Mangalore. In such a situation, the Government should consider setting up an industrial area near Mangalore.

The KCCI has identified any location for the industrial area, he said, but was suggesting to the Government the need for another industrial area in Mangalore.

Mr Kamath stressed the need for upgrading basic infrastructure at the industrial area in Baikampady. He said that the Government should finalise the comprehensive development plan for Mangalore city immediately.

The KCCI President that the chamber is ready to tie up with Mangalore City Corporation for providing better toilet facilities within the corporation limits.

Stressing the need to broaden certain roads in the city limits, he suggested that the broadening of roads within 50-km radius of Mangalore will help boost growth in the region.

The Railway should consider introducing a day train to Bangalore from Mangalore, and the existing night train should be provided with additional coaches, he said.

The Mangalore region contributes a significant share to the tax collection in the country. In such a situation, the Government should spend adequate amount for the infrastructure development in the region, he said.
