Mangalore SEZ initiates multi-product zone
Mangalore: A multi-product special economic zone can help generate more jobs in the Mangalore region, according to Mr I.S.N. Prasad, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mangalore SEZ Ltd (MSEZL).
Speaking at the inauguration of ‘Pragati’ a symposium on SEZ organised by the Aloysius Institute of Business Administration he said MSEZL has been notified as a petrochemical sector-specific SEZ with 1,453 acres of land.
The company is keen to develop the area as a multi-product SEZ, and it requires at least 2,500 acres of land for this purpose. “We are keen on a multi-product zone that could generate more number of jobs in the region,” he said.
Around 4,000 acres of land for a multi-product SEZ would prove the long-term potential of the area.
Some large industries, outside the petrochemical domain, are likely to come up in the manufacturing sector in the multi-product zone, he said.
Mr C.J. Mathew, Development Commissioner of Cochin Special Economic Zone, said seven SEZs are run by the Government of India.
