Mamata inaugurates two new Keventer projects.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently launched two new projects of the Keventer Group in north Bengal. Keventer Agro Limited, one of the most respected names in the field of food processing and preservation, is setting up a plant in Malda for producing ice-cream and frozen dessert. The initial capacity of the plant will be 36.5 lakh litres per year (10,000 litres per day). The company is also setting up a state-of-the-art banana cold storage and ripening centre with an annual capacity of 5,500 tonnes at Dabgram, Siliguri.

Keventer Agro Limited managing director Mayank Jalan said, 'As a company, we see enormous opportunities in north Bengal given its strategic location as the 'Gateway to the North-East' and also because of abundant availability of agri-resources such as mangoes, oranges and pineapples. With our expertise in food processing and marketing, we
shall be able to provide the best in quality and the freshest of products to the people of the region.'

More than 6.71 lakh farmers in West Bengal produce about 1.08 million tonnes of bananas every year, but a lot of the fruit goes to waste due to lack of scientific cultivation and ripening and preservation techniques, said Jalan. (EOIC)
