Lubrizol and Grasim Commission Major CPVC Resin Unit in Gujarat at ₹1,400 Crore Investment.

Specialty chemicals company Lubrizol and Aditya Birla Group flagship Grasim Industries on Tuesday inaugurated a chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) resin manufacturing facility at Vilayat in Gujarat, aimed at strengthening domestic production of materials used in plumbing and piping applications.

The project, involving an investment of around $150 million (approximately ₹1,417 crore), is expected to significantly enhance the availability of CPVC resin and compounds used across residential, commercial and industrial piping systems. The facility is also intended to reduce India’s dependence on imports for key construction-grade materials.

Along with Lubrizol’s recently expanded CPVC compounding facility at Dahej, the new plant creates one of the country’s largest integrated CPVC manufacturing ecosystems, according to official sources cited by businessline.

The companies said the integrated setup will support a more robust domestic supply chain for pipes and fittings, while strengthening local manufacturing capabilities in the chemicals sector.

Abhishek Shrivastav, Managing Director for India, Middle East and Africa (IMEA) at Lubrizol, said the company has been instrumental in introducing CPVC technology to India more than two decades ago and has since seen strong market growth alongside the country’s expanding economy.

“With the commissioning of this facility, we are strengthening our manufacturing capabilities in India through a local-for-local approach and ensuring consistent access to high-quality, locally produced materials,” Shrivastav said.
