L&T Secures Cable Bridge Project in Assam, Share Prices Surge

Shares of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) rose by 2.45% following the announcement that its transportation infrastructure business arm had secured a contract to construct the Palashbari to Sualkuchi Cable Stayed Bridge across the river Brahmaputra in Assam.

The contract, awarded by the Public Works Roads Department (PwRD) of Assam, entails the construction of a 12.21 kilometre-long bridge with approaches linking Palashbari and Sualkuchi directly. This bridge holds significant importance as it enhances connectivity between the two towns.

Sualkuchi is renowned as a weaving center, known for crafting traditional Assamese garments using indigenous materials like Muga, the golden silk unique to the region. Additionally, the bridge will establish a direct link to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Assam.

The project comprises a 3.6 kilometre-long cable-stayed bridge segment, along with 5.61 kilometres of approach on the Palashbari side and 3.0 kilometres of approach on the Sualkuchi side, including wetland approach viaducts. The maximum span of the extradosed cable-stayed portion will be 165 meters. The completion timeline for the project is set at 48 months.

L&T is already involved in executing the 'Dhubri Phulbari Bridge Project' for the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), in addition to various other infrastructure projects in Assam.
