Mumbai: Larsen & Toubro and GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting up boiling water reactor BWR) and advanced boiling water reactor(ABWR) nuclear power plants.
The GEH-L&T deal will establish an extensive network of local suppliers for building a ABWR power station in India. It will also gear up to meet India's power needs through nuclear energy.
The GEH ABWR technology is the only commercially proven Generation III advanced reactor design with four units in operation and another four under construction.
L&T has also signed an MoU with the Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) for cooperation in Advanced CANDU Reactor ACR1000 and setting up of nuclear power plants in India.
