Lords hotels to build wellness resort in Karnataka's Shimoga district

Mid-market hotel chain Lords Hotels and Resorts is investing Rs. 125 crore in an upcoming wellness resort in Karnataka's Shimoga district. Spread across 11 acres, the greenfield project will have up to 200 rooms near the banks of the Tunga River in the southern state.

The company operates mainly twostar to four-star hotels in Tier-II, III and IV towns, but the upcoming project will be a five-star resort.

'The Rs. 125 crore includes the cost of land. We have some properties in Bengaluru and Palakkad, Kerala. The project is poised for a partial opening by early next year and will be complete by 2017,' managing director PR Bansal told ET. The resort will charge tariffs of about Rs. 16,000 per night, he added. The group currently runs 24 properties, including nine that it owns, in India and Nepal, and is targeting to open another 25 by the end of 2017. It also plans to open hotels in Nairobi in Kenya and Kampala in Uganda, Bansal said.
