Lam Research Corp. to Expand Semiconductor Equipment Supply Chain in India
Fortune 500 company Lam Research Corporation has announced its plans to expand its global semiconductor fabrication equipment supply chain to include India. The expansion aims to leverage India's growing capabilities across various supply chain segments and explore partnerships with local suppliers who can provide precision components, custom parts, high-purity gas delivery systems, and other key assemblies needed for semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment.
According to the company's statement, the global semiconductor industry is projected to grow to $1 trillion in annual revenue by the end of this decade, driving an increased need for collaboration and global engagement of expertise, intellectual property, materials, and talent. To meet this demand, Lam Research has adopted a "close to customer" strategy that involves working closely with thousands of suppliers worldwide. This approach is designed to build resilience against region-specific supply chain disruptions and mitigate the risk of supply bottlenecks.
Karthik Rammohan, Vice President and Head of Global Operations at Lam Research, highlighted the company's intent to capitalize on India's infrastructure and talent. He stated, "Leveraging the infrastructure and talent of our India Center of Engineering, our new proactive initiative to drive supply chain growth in India also has the capacity to contribute to improved performance, sustainability, and enhanced capabilities for our customers regionally and across Asia."
Rangesh Raghavan, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Lam Research India, expressed enthusiasm for the expansion. "By enhancing Lam’s strong global supply infrastructure with capabilities from local suppliers, integrators, and other strategic providers, we aim to boost the flexibility of our supply chain while further supporting the semiconductor ecosystem in India, where Lam has been a proud leader for more than two decades."
As Lam Research explores opportunities in India, the company will focus on assessing and establishing collaborations with India-based suppliers to support its growing semiconductor fabrication equipment business. The move signals a strategic effort to diversify the company's global supply chain and contribute to India's burgeoning semiconductor industry. Further details on specific partnerships and agreements are expected to emerge as Lam Research solidifies its presence in the region.
