Lahore rapid mass transit system to be launched soon
Lahore: The 'Lahore Rapid Mass Transit System' will prove to be a milestone in overcoming traffic problems of the provincial metropolis and will result in provision of safe, comfortable and affordable transport facilities to the masses.
Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Ejaz Nisar chaired a meeting on Wednesday said the foundation stone of the project would be laid soon. Planning and Development Chairman Suleman Ghani gave a detailed briefing about the project. The chief minister said the system would be made up of an underground tube system and a rail system at ground level.
He added that the first phase of the project would be from Hamza Town to Shahdara and the second phase from Thokar Niaz Baig that will end at the Lahore Station GT Road.
He said the implementation would give an impetus to construction activities generating thousands of job opportunities. He said the project would result in safe and affordable transport facilities and improve the overall traffic management in the city, adding the project would also promote economic and tourist activities. Chief Secretary Salman Siddique said the system would leave a positive impact on environment and raise the living standards.
