Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5 sees installation of Reactor Pressure Vessel.
Rosatom State Corporation recently announced the installation of the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) in Unit 5 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.
The Russian state-owned company, which is the main developer of the Kudankulam nuclear project, said the RPV installation marks a key milestone in the construction of the unit.
Reactor Pressure Vessels are large, high-precision containment structures that house the reactor core where nuclear fission takes place. They are engineered to withstand extreme temperatures and high-pressure operating conditions.
According to Rosatom, the RPV for Unit 5 was installed using the “open top” method, where heavy equipment is lowered into the reactor building using a heavy-duty crane before the containment dome is erected.
