KNR Constructions Joint Venture Bags Mega ₹3,361 Crore Coal Mining Contract in Chhattisgarh.

KNR Constructions Limited has announced that its joint venture, KNR-SIML (JV), has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for a large-scale coal mining contract in Chhattisgarh, valued at ₹3,361.11 crore (excluding GST). The award has been issued by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited.

The joint venture is led by KNR Constructions with a 51% majority stake, while Sushee Infra & Mining Limited holds the remaining 49%.

The project is located at the Kusmunda Open Cast Project (OCP) in the Kusmunda area of Chhattisgarh and will be executed on an item-rate basis over a long-term period of 2,920 days, or approximately eight years.

Under the scope of work, the contract covers extensive overburden removal, mechanical coal extraction, and associated logistics operations. The overburden segment includes the excavation, transportation, and disposal of about 258.15 million cubic meters of material, with a mandated minimum daily handling capacity of 88,410 cubic meters. This includes removal of soft soil and silt layers as well as large-scale excavation of hard rock and inter-burden formations using heavy earthmoving machinery and drilling equipment.

A key component of the project involves advanced mechanical coal cutting using surface miners equipped with dust suppression systems, eliminating the need for conventional drilling and blasting. The JV is tasked with extracting 142.89 million tonnes of coal, with a minimum daily production target of 48,934 tonnes.

The contract also includes mechanical loading and transportation operations. Coal will be handled using payloaders at multiple seams and transported via a fleet of tippers to designated infrastructure points, including stockyards, railway sidings such as Gevra and NK-2, and in-pit conveyor systems.

The award represents a major long-term mining assignment for the consortium, combining large-scale excavation, mechanized coal production, and integrated logistics across the Kusmunda mining complex.
