Kawasaki to double parts sourcing biz.

Pune-based maker of super bikes India Kawasaki Motors Pvt Ltd. (IKMPL) expects to double its business of sourcing parts from India for its overseas plants during the year.

The subsidiary of the Japanese company which assembles four superbike models at a facility in the premises of the Bajaj Auto Corporate office at Akurdi also plans to assemble more models in the country.

'Our parts business is growing rapidly and has exceeded expectations,' Nashikawa Singeto, deputy MD for IKMPL told Business Line. Currently valued at Rs. 30-40 crore, parts like the forklift and shock absorbers are exported to Kawasaki plants in Japan and Indonesia. The company expects to this value to double this year, and will also add some more items to the list, he added.

Elaborating on their plans for assembly, Singeto said that there were plans to add two or three more models to the Kawasaki portfolio in the country, which currently includes two imported as Completely Built Units.

During 2014, IKMPL sold 1500 units, of which 1100 were built locally. Singeto said, 'Last year we grew 50% over 2013, and expect to see similar growth in 2015.'
