Karnataka confirms Maytas Infra for airport projects

New Delhi: The Karnataka Government has written to Maytas Infra asking why the order giving them the right to develop greenfield airports at Gulbarga and Shimoga should not be rescinded.

Confirming the development, a senior State Government official said that the company has been given 10 days to send its reply. Maytas Infra is promoted by the same promoter family of the now beleaguered Satyam Computer Services Ltd.

Maytas Infra won the bids for Shimoga and Gulbarga airports in April last year, in consortium with Nagarjuna Construction Company-owned NCC and Vienna International Airport’s arm, VIE India Project Development and Holding LLC.

Asked on the way forward, official sources indicated that the promoters may be allowed to continue with the project if one of the three promoters dropped out. While Maytas-NCC-VIE was the only bidder for the Gulbarga project, there were just two bids at the time for the Shimoga project.
