Kandla Port to Begin Green Hydrogen Production by June 2025.
Gujarat’s Kandla Port is set to become the first port in India to house an operational green hydrogen plant within its premises, utilizing indigenous electrolysers. According to a statement from the Ministry of Shipping, production is expected to commence in the latter half of 2025.
The project features a 1-megawatt (MW) electrolyser developed by L&T, with plans to scale up to a 10 MW capacity in the future. The facility is expected to be fully operational by July 2025, producing approximately 18 kg of green hydrogen per hour, translating to around 80-90 tonnes annually.
With site preparations completed, the electrolysers will soon be assembled to initiate production. The green hydrogen generated will be used to produce clean energy through fuel cells, supporting self-sustaining and eco-friendly power solutions at the port.
Additionally, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) plans to integrate green ammonia production into the facility by incorporating the necessary infrastructure.
