JSW Steel Plans to Commission 580 MW Renewable Power Procurement by March 2025.

JSW Steel announced recently that its Board of Directors has approved a Power Purchase Agreement for the procurement of renewable energy totaling 1,637 MW across its facilities in Vijayanagar, Dolvi, Salem, and Anjar. Of this total, 375 MW has already been commissioned, and an additional 580 MW is expected to be commissioned by March 2025, as stated in a company press release.

The Board also approved the procurement of a hybrid renewable energy generation capacity of 600 MW—comprising 200 MW from solar and 400 MW from wind—at Dolvi, 60 MW at Salem, and 210 MW at JSW Steel Coated Products. This brings the total renewable energy generation capacity under procurement to 2,507 MW, with additional capacities scheduled for commissioning in FY27. All renewable capacities are being developed in accordance with the group captive norms outlined in the Electricity Act.

In its update on ongoing projects, JSW Steel noted that the Hot Strip Mill for the 5 MTPA project at Vijayanagar, operated by its wholly owned subsidiary JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd. (JVML), was commissioned in March 2024. The company also reported that the Raw Material Handling System, Sinter Plant, and Blast Furnace have been commissioned, while the Steel Melt Shop is currently undergoing commissioning. The ramp-up for this project is expected to be completed in Q4 FY25.

Additionally, the company has adjusted the shutdown schedule for Blast Furnace-3 at Vijayanagar for its expansion from 1.5 MTPA to H1 FY26.

At BPSL, the Phase-II expansion from 3.5 MTPA to 4.5 MTPA has been successfully completed, with major equipment and facilities commissioned. Furthermore, commissioning activities have begun for the color-coated line with a capacity of 0.12 MTPA at JSW Steel Coated Products Ltd.

The 30 MTPA slurry pipeline project in Odisha is also progressing well, with commissioning anticipated in FY27, according to the company's release.
