JSW Energy Synchronizes Second 350 MW Unit at Utkal Thermal Plant.
JSW Energy (Utkal) Limited has successfully synchronized the second 350 MW unit at its thermal power plant in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, marking the completion of the plant’s full restoration. The 700 MW facility, acquired through NCLT proceedings in December 2022, has been revived in approximately 24 months.
The newly synchronized unit operates on domestic coal and is currently not linked to any long-term power purchase agreements. With the addition of this unit, JSW Energy’s operational thermal capacity has increased to 3,858 MW, while its total locked-in thermal capacity now stands at 7,458 MW.
This achievement is part of JSW Energy’s broader expansion plans. The company’s total locked-in generation capacity has now reached 28.2 GW, encompassing thermal, wind, hydel, and solar power. Additionally, JSW Energy is working on power projects totaling 8.3 GW and is on track to meet its target of 20 GW capacity by 2030.
A subsidiary of the $24 billion JSW Group, JSW Energy has experienced significant growth since commissioning its first thermal power plants in 2000. The company is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 while contributing to India’s rising base load power demands.
