Islamabad Expressway to be inaugurated today

Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will formally inaugurate the Islamabad Expressway today more than one and a half month after its completion.

The Expressway was completed at a cost of Rs 877 million in a record time of eight months, almost four and a half months ahead of schedule.

Its expansion from three-lanes-a-side to five on either side has improved the flow of traffic yet jaywalking on the new road remains a serious issue.

Senior officials of the CDA and respective ministries will turn up at Tuesday’s ceremony taking place close to the “Unity, Faith, Discipline” hillock.

The Islamabad Expressway is eight kilometers in length on one side and is the CDA’s third major road project after the completion of the 7th and 9th Avenues.
