Infosys to Establish Global Capability Center for Lufthansa in India.

Infosys is reportedly establishing a global capability center (GCC) in India for Lufthansa as part of a nearly $300 million IT contract renewal with the German airline, sources revealed. This move highlights the growing significance of build-operate-transfer (BOT) models in large-scale contract renewals.

The creation of the dedicated tech hub for Lufthansa follows similar steps by other airlines, with Delta Airlines setting up a tech center in Bengaluru four years ago and American Airlines planning a technology center in Hyderabad. These developments underscore the increasing role of aviation-focused global capability centers expanding their technological presence in India.

Lufthansa Technik Services India (LTSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik, has been operating in Bengaluru since 2005, serving India and South Asia. With over 300 employees, LTSI provides component services globally for all major commercial aircraft categories and offers access to Lufthansa Technik’s extensive spare parts inventory, repair facilities, and engineering assistance.

Infosys has previously set up integrated facilities for various industries, including aerospace, where it implemented monitoring devices across over 500 machines in 11 facilities. The project featured a wireless network on the production floor that integrated sensor data with analytical tools to enhance operational decisions.

Infosys has a history of creating GCCs for its clients, such as the aerospace and digital innovation center in Bengaluru, launched with Rolls-Royce two years ago. This center aims to deliver high-end R&D services, integrating digital technologies into Rolls-Royce’s engineering operations.

The growing MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) market is expected to reach $118 billion by 2030, although this forecast remains 13% below pre-Covid estimates. The establishment of such centers plays a key role in helping global companies leverage India’s tech expertise in aviation and other sectors.
