"India Semiconductor Research Centre Construction Set to Commence Next Year, Announces Rajeev Chandrasekhar"

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is all set to embark on the establishment of the India Semiconductor Research Centre (ISRC) from the upcoming year, in a landmark collaboration with industry and academia, as revealed by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State. This significant initiative underscores India's commitment to advancing semiconductor research and innovation.

The India Semiconductor R&D Committee has played a pivotal role in advancing this vision and recently presented its comprehensive report on the ISRC to the Minister. The forthcoming semiconductor laboratory is poised for modernization, with a core focus on driving innovation. The facility will be strategically co-located with the ISRC to foster an environment of seamless collaboration and cutting-edge research.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed his appreciation for the relentless efforts of the India Semiconductor R&D Committee and acknowledged the profound impact their work is poised to have. He stated, "After months of dedicated research, the India Semiconductor R&D Committee has laid out a roadmap for ISRC, realizing the architectural design that aligns with Prime Minister Modi's vision for the semiconductor ecosystem."

In a significant move in December 2021, the Indian government pledged a substantial investment of ₹76,000 crore (equivalent to $10 billion) to catalyze the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem within the country.

"The ISRC report is an integral part of a decadal strategy that promises to significantly influence India, its young scientists, researchers, and startups. It is intricately aligned with the Prime Minister's vision for 'Viksit Bharat.' In the next four to five years, ISRC is poised to emerge as one of the leading semiconductor research institutions globally," Chandrasekhar emphasized.

The Minister further elucidated that ISRC represents a strategic element within the government's comprehensive approach to elevate India into a globally renowned hub for semiconductor research and innovation. This ambitious endeavor underscores India's unwavering commitment to advancing technological research and catalyzing breakthroughs in semiconductor technology, thereby reinforcing its position on the global stage.
