Himadri launches India’s first anode material plant, targets exports to US and Europe starting Q3FY27.

India’s largest speciality carbon black manufacturer, Himadri Speciality Chemical, has commissioned the country’s first anode material production facility in West Bengal, marking a major step in India’s lithium-ion battery ecosystem.

The Kolkata-based company inaugurated the plant at Mahistikry on Thursday with an initial production capacity of 200 MTPA. The facility will manufacture anode material, a critical component used in lithium-ion batteries.

Himadri plans to begin exporting the material to international markets, particularly the United States and Europe, starting from the third quarter of the current fiscal year.

“We have been working on this anode material technology for the last 14 years. We have made significant investments in developing this product, and the quality we are producing is very high. We are the first company in India to commercialise anode material production for lithium-ion batteries,” said Anurag Choudhary, CMD and CEO of Himadri Speciality Chemical.

The development positions the company as a pioneer in India’s advanced battery materials segment, with ambitions to tap into growing global demand.
