HC Notice on NH Project Delay.

The Orissa High Court has issued notice to the Centre and the State Government over delay in completion of Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway.

Acting on a PIL filed by lawyer-activist Nishikanta Mishra, division bench of Justice P Mohanty and Justice Biswajit Mohanty instructed the State Chief Secretary, Secretary of Union Surface Transport Department, NHAI and Puri Collector to file their response within two weeks.

Mishra had alleged that the work on the NH project was going on at such a slow pace that it cannot be completed before the deadline of March, 2015. Based on the information obtained under the RTI Act, he stated that only around 40 per cent of 59-km road was completed till date while Nabakalebar would be held mid-next year. Going by the pace of work execution which is hindered by land acquisition problems, the road cannot be completed within the deadline, he submitted.
