HAL plans to set up aircraft, MRO facility in Bangalore

Bangalore: Hindustan Aeronautics plans to set up a new facility with a total investment of Rs 2,095 crore for aircraft and aero-engine manufacturing and MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul) near the new airport at Devanahalli.

The proposal involving 75-100 acres has been cleared by the State High Level Committee chaired by the Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa.

Details were not available from HAL immediately; State Government officials said the facility would take up aero-engine manufacturing, MRO and spares for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The project would create 285 more jobs.

This was among the 12 mega investment proposals the committee cleared on Wednesday involving total investments of over Rs 7,080 crore, spread across the State, the Chief Minister said in a briefing. Only two will come up in Bangalore.

The proposals include three power projects, two automobile ventures, a sugar plant, a cement plant expansion, a rubber park and a plastic park.

Karnataka Power Corp plans to set up two 600-MW thermal units in Raichur with an investment of Rs 1,400 crore. KPCL has sought an additional 234 acres of land for the first unit, which is expected to be completed in four years.

NK Utilities was given the green signal for a clean energy generation project worth Rs 1,740 crore in Bagalkot.

Automobile company Stanzen Toyotetsu plans to put up a Rs 173-crore plant at Ramanagaram and JBM Auto its plant at Rs 81.95 crore. Nirani Cements plans to set up a Rs 520-crore cement manufacturing expansion unit in Bagalkot. A Rs 137-crore rubber park will be set up in Mysore by Rubber Marketing and a Rs 129.50-crore plastic park in Bangalore Urban district by Plastic Udyog Nagar. D.M. Estate has got approval to set up an IT/ITeS park in Bangalore Urban at Rs 336 crore.
