Gujarat’s Chip Industry Gets ₹1,600 Crore Boost with Foreign Investment.

Gujarat’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem is set for a major boost with investment proposals worth over ₹1,600 crore announced on Sunday, covering manufacturing units, chemicals, equipment, R&D centres, and advanced technology startups. The announcements underscore growing interest from Japanese, South Korean, and Malaysian companies in the state’s electronics sector.

Japan’s Horiba Group, through its Indian subsidiary Horiba India Pvt Ltd, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gujarat government to establish a dedicated R&D centre in Ahmedabad. The centre will focus on semiconductor-grade mass-flow controllers and advanced instrumentation.

Malaysia-based Hotayi Electronic also signed an agreement to set up a ₹250 crore electronics manufacturing facility at Sanand GIDC. The plant, expected to create 1,000 jobs, will produce high-precision components for semiconductor and allied industries.

At the Gujarat Semiconnect conference in Gandhinagar, additional proposals included Hi-Spec Ltd establishing a ₹750 crore facility to manufacture semiconductor-grade hydrofluoric acid, essential for wafer processing, and Kiansh International Technologies, in collaboration with a South Korean firm, investing ₹25 crore to produce gas abatement systems and scrubbers for the semiconductor and solar industries.

These initiatives are expected to significantly strengthen Gujarat’s position as a hub for advanced semiconductor manufacturing in India.
