Govt to set up generic drug stores

New Delhi: In a bid to make available cheaper drugs the Government has decided to open 'jan aushadhi' generic drug stores.

The first generic store opened at Civil Hospital (Amritsar) on November 25. According to the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Mr B.K. Handique, there is huge difference in the price of medicines offered through these stores compared with market price.

For example, a pack of 10 paracetamol tablets costs Rs 2.30 at the Government-sponsored stores compared to market price of Rs 11.
