Govt Explores Setting Up Dedicated Space Parks

The central government is once again evaluating the feasibility of establishing dedicated industrial zones aimed at subsidizing the manufacturing and development of space technology, two years after the proposal was first discussed in inter-ministerial meetings.

Industry representatives have already engaged with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) on the matter, according to government officials.

The move reflects the government’s growing focus on accelerating local production of key space technology components, including satellite parts, launch vehicles, and geospatial navigation and monitoring systems.

While there are no immediate plans to introduce a Production Linked Incentive (PLI)-like scheme, alternative approaches are currently being explored, officials confirmed.
