Gautam Solar to Invest ₹1,000 Crore in 2 GW Solar Cell Plant to Enhance Domestic Manufacturing

Gautam Solar announced on Wednesday its plans to establish a 2 gigawatt (GW) solar cell manufacturing plant, with an investment of ₹1,000 crore. This initiative is part of the company’s strategy to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy in India and support domestic manufacturing.

The new facility will align with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) guidelines on promoting indigenous manufacturing of solar cells. Gautam Mohanka, CEO of Gautam Solar, stated, “Our forthcoming 2 GW solar cell manufacturing plant aligns with MNRE’s guidelines on promoting indigenous manufacturing of solar cells. We are committed to delivering cutting-edge, reliable solar solutions that empower India’s transition to a sustainable future.”

The plant will help meet the demand for Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) panels, essential for government-backed subsidy projects that require locally manufactured components. By providing high-quality, DCR-compliant solar cells, Gautam Solar aims to offer a strong alternative to Chinese manufacturers who currently dominate the Indian solar cell market.

Gautam Solar has already secured a 60-acre land parcel in Bhiwani, Haryana, for manufacturing solar panels and raw materials, although the company remains open to exploring other locations to optimize the overall ecosystem. This new venture will complement its existing operations, including a solar module manufacturing plant in Haridwar and an upcoming expansion in Bhiwani, further enhancing its vertical integration and capabilities in the solar industry.
