GAIL Signs Long-Term LNG Carrier Agreement with Alpha Gas.
GAIL (India) Ltd recently signed a long-term charter party agreement with Alpha Gas for the LNG carrier “Energy Fidelity,” reinforcing its efforts to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure and energy supply chain.
The agreement was executed through Pantheon Maritime Services Pvt Ltd, a Singapore-based affiliate of Alpha Gas. The LNG carrier has a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic metres and features a two-stroke propulsion system, air lubrication technology, and shaft generators to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, according to a regulatory filing.
The pact was signed in Athens by S. Bairagi, Executive Director (Marketing – Shipping & International LNG) of GAIL, and Anna Angelicoussis, owner of Alpha Gas. The move aligns with GAIL’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, aimed at bolstering India’s energy security and maritime capabilities.
The agreement comes amid ongoing disruptions in West Asian LNG supplies following the early March 2026 US-Israeli strikes on Iran and restrictions at the Strait of Hormuz. GAIL has responded with spot purchases and supply reallocations, prioritising essential sectors and leveraging diversified sources to maintain operational continuity despite rising risks.
