Foundation laid for TN textile park
Komarapalayam: The Union Minister of State for Textiles, Mr E.V.K.S. Elangovan, has said that if the existing textile park projects proved a success, the Government would consider setting up 200-250 textile parks across the country during the 11th Plan as the country would have to nurture its traditional textile sector to ensure jobs to millions.
Participating in the ground-breaking ceremony for the Rs 125-crore Komarapalayam Hi-Tech Weaving Park (KHWP) project at Korapaliyur, some 15 km from this powerloom town, the Minister added that Government encouragement to developing such parks would depend much on the success of the current crop of 26 textile parks sanctioned by it so far.
He wanted textile entrepreneurs to plough back at least 25 per cent of profits into R&D.
He appreciated the promoters of the KHWP for their efforts to set up the park, which stands to get Rs 14 crore towards investment subsidy from the Centre towards the cost of infrastructure creation.
The Union Minister of State for Social Justice, Ms Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, also MP representing the area in which the project is situated, said that promotion of such parks would help eliminate industrial pollution.
