Eastern Railway to take up new projects.

Work for the Son Nagar-Gomoh stretch on the eastern freight corridor in Bihar would be taken up soon, said RK Gupta, Eastern Railway General Manager.

He said the corridor extension project from Gomoh to Dankuni (near the city), which would be through public-private partnership, had attracted eight private players so far.

At an event of MCC Chamber of Commerce & Industry, he mentioned that owing to land acquisition problem of about a 466-metre stretch, the Azimganj-Jiaganje line in West Bengal could not be completed.

The railway track between Nabadwipdham to Nabadwipghat could not also be laid down due to land issues, Gupta added.

The Budge Budge workshop, which is to supplement Railway Coach Factory at Kapurthala, will be operational by December.

He said Eastern Railway will run 101 special trains during the Puja season. There is also a plan to electrify 500 km of track this year and 550 km by next year, he added.
