DPIIT Reviews ₹14,096 Crore North India Infra Projects.

A high-level meeting, chaired by Amardeep Bhatia, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), was recently held to conduct a comprehensive review of significant infrastructure projects in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. The session addressed 19 critical issues across 17 projects, collectively valued at over ₹14,096 crore, with a strong emphasis on accelerating their implementation through improved synergy between central ministries and respective state governments.

The review process was facilitated by the Project Monitoring Group (PMG), a platform designed to foster collaboration between senior officials from both central and state administrations, alongside the project developers themselves. Key infrastructure projects that came under scrutiny during the meeting included the vital four-laning of the Jaunpur–Akbarpur road in Uttar Pradesh, the strategic establishment of new Employees' State Insurance (ESI) hospitals across the region, and the development of a permanent campus for the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Uttarakhand.

The Jaunpur–Akbarpur road project, with a substantial valuation of ₹3,164.72 crore, was identified as facing two significant challenges across its various work packages. This project is considered crucial for enhancing regional connectivity within Uttar Pradesh and is expected to significantly improve the existing road infrastructure in the area, facilitating smoother transportation and economic activity.

The meeting also underscored the strategic importance of establishing new ESI hospitals, a key initiative by the Government of India aimed at bolstering healthcare infrastructure in regions characterized by underserved populations and high demand for medical services. Secretary Bhatia emphasized that these hospitals will play a pivotal role in enhancing access to quality medical care and fostering regional development, ultimately contributing to the well-being of the workforce and their families.

Another significant project under review was the construction of the permanent campus for NIT Uttarakhand, located at Sumari in the Pauri Garhwal district. This ambitious project is designed to strengthen the educational infrastructure in the state by providing a modern and comprehensive academic and administrative environment. Once operational, the NIT Uttarakhand campus is expected to elevate the standards of technical education and research in the region while simultaneously driving local socio-economic growth.

Secretary Bhatia reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to strengthening institutional mechanisms dedicated to project monitoring and urged all stakeholders to adopt a proactive and solution-oriented approach to resolving any hurdles hindering project progress. He also encouraged active engagement from private sector participants with the PMG platform, emphasizing its role in expediting implementation through enhanced coordination with government agencies and other relevant stakeholders. The focus of the meeting was clearly on streamlining processes and ensuring the timely completion of these crucial infrastructure projects to benefit the respective states and the nation as a whole.
