Paris-based premium luggage brand Delsey is exploring backpack manufacturing in India as part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in the country and cater to local market demand.
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the company’s exclusive store in Chennai, Gilles Bariguian, CEO of Delsey, said the company is currently evaluating potential factories and contract manufacturing partners in India. The company expects local production of backpacks to commence by the first quarter of 2027.
“The bags will be designed and engineered by our teams in Paris and then manufactured by our suppliers here,” Bariguian said. “The key is to commit to the volume and design the right bag in line with what we want to do for the India market.”
The proposed manufacturing initiative is expected to help Delsey align its product offerings more closely with Indian consumer preferences while leveraging the country’s growing manufacturing ecosystem.
India remains an important market for the French luggage maker as it expands its retail footprint and seeks to capitalize on rising demand for premium travel and lifestyle products.
