Cummins Generator opens plant at Ranjangaon

Pune: Cummins Generator Technologies India Ltd (CGTIL, formerly Newage Electrical India Ltd,) has inaugurated its new facility at Ranjangaon near Pune on Monday.

The unit would become operational by next month after certain statutory clearances are completed. Talking to presspersons, Mr Pradeep Bhargava, Managing Director, Cummins Generator and Mr Anant Talaulicar, Chairman and Managing Director, Cummins India, said an investment of $6 million has been utilised for the first phase.

The first phase consists of an area of 11,500 sq.m. with a total shop floor area of 4,800 sq.m. and a manufacturing capacity of 75,000 alternators per annum. It may be noted that the company has another facility in Ahmednagar, which manufacturers alternators for the range between 50kva to 2,000kva.

Export hub

According to Mr Bhargava, by mid-2008, both plants together would have an installed capacity of 1 lakh alternators per year. The Ranjangaon facility is spread over 11 acres, which gives scope for expansion and would manufacture alternators for the 5kva-40kva range, which is the large volume, low value segment, he said.

With the addition of the new plant, CGTIL is all set to become the major export hub Mr Anant said there are four new facilities, which are coming up, three in Maharashtra and one in Madhya Pradesh. Kothrud facility, catering to the high horsepower engines, would be ramping up its production from the current 14 to 24 engines per annum from next year.

The second is the Cummins megasite at Phaltan and the third is Pirangut for the low horsepower generator drives and generator sets.

The site at Madhya Pradesh is in Pithampur Special Economic Zone. He said it has taken over 10 acres in Pithampur and would be producing one lakh turbochargers per annum. The facility is expected to go on stream within the year, he said.
