CONCOR inks rail cargo pact with PSA Mumbai terminal.

Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals, operated by PSA Mumbai, to collaborate on the rail-based transportation of domestic, cabotage and customs-cleared export-import cargo.

The agreement aims to strengthen connectivity between PSA Mumbai’s terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and CONCOR’s inland container depots and domestic terminals across the country. According to CONCOR, the partnership will focus on operating container train services and improving cargo evacuation through rail transport to reduce road congestion and improve turnaround times.

Under the arrangement, the companies will facilitate the movement of domestic and customs-cleared EXIM containers between PSA Mumbai and CONCOR terminals through rail-based logistics solutions. The collaboration will also seek to optimise yard space and rail-handling infrastructure at PSA Mumbai for cargo aggregation, staging and evacuation activities.

CONCOR said the two companies plan to operate scheduled container train services between PSA Mumbai and its terminals, subject to operational feasibility and regulatory approvals. The partners will also explore the possibility of a broader strategic alliance covering logistics and terminal-related operations.

The state-run logistics company said the partnership is expected to strengthen multimodal logistics connectivity and improve cargo movement between ports and hinterland locations across India.
