Coastal Road: BMC begins impact survey.

Gearing up for the construction of Mumbai’s Coastal Road, the BMC has begun it survey of the impact of the road on its surroundings and the environment.

It will submit this survey to the Central government within a month’s time. Soon after, the civic body will float tenders for the project.

The BMC has decided to execute this project in seven phases and will launch all the phases at the same time. Moreover, it will take up areas facing chock-a-block traffic on an urgent basis.

The Central government gave its final nod on Wednesday for the implementation of the 35 km long coastal road connecting Nariman point to Kandivali. So far, land reclamation was allowed only for construction of ports or harbours. This is the first time that is being allowed for road construction, hence the survey is an important milestone for the civic body.
