CM Saini Announces Plan to Add 20 Lakh Metric Tonnes of Grain Storage Capacity in Haryana

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to strengthen food grain storage infrastructure across the state to safeguard farmers' produce and reduce post-harvest losses. As part of the initiative, Haryana plans to create an additional 20 lakh metric tonnes of grain storage capacity, with officials instructed to make all necessary preparations to meet the target.

The Chief Minister issued the directions while chairing a review meeting on the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department's five-year roadmap and action plan under Haryana Vision-2047 at the Haryana Civil Secretariat on Tuesday, according to an official release.

During the meeting, Commissioner and Secretary of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, J Ganesan, highlighted that inadequate warehousing facilities and the continued practice of open storage result in the loss of nearly 4 to 5 percent of the state's food grain production annually. The proposed expansion of storage capacity is aimed at addressing these challenges and ensuring better preservation of agricultural produce.
