CM directs AP Genco to expedite pending projects

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, directed AP Genco, which is adding about 8,860 MW in four years, to expedite the pending projects.

Reviewing the power situation in the State ahead of the foundation stone laying ceremony of 2x800 MW Sri Damodaram Sanjeeviah Thermal Power Station at Krishnapatnam by the UPA Chairperson, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, on July 17, Dr Reddy said that State was focusing on long-term strategies for power generation.

In a statement, Dr Reddy stated that scanty rainfall this season has resulted in acute shortage of power in the State. Therefore, the Government’s focus is on long-term strategies in power sector.

While urging people not to politicise the current power situation, Dr Reddy mentioned that the present gap between generation and supply of power was due to faulty policies of the previous Telugu Desam regime.

This had completely crippled AP Genco. The Managing Director of AP Genco, Mr Ajay Jain, said that all the thermal generating stations in the State are currently running at full capacity and efforts are under way to complete new projects as per targeted deadlines.

The daily demand for power has shot up to 198 million units a day as against 145 to 160 mu last year.
