CESC buys Calcutta Tramways land in Kolkata for Rs. 27 cr.

Private power utility CESC has bought 49.16 cottah of Calcutta Tramways Corporation in three land parcels in the metropolis auctioned by the West Bengal government, the first such divestment.

The RP-Sanjiv Goenka group-owned company, will pay Rs. 27.73 crore for 49.16 cottah spread over three tram depots at Galiff Street (14.95 cottah), Kalighat (12.33 cottah) and Kidderpore (21.33 cottah).

Transport minister Madan Mitra recently handed over the letter of intent to CESC managing director Aniruddha Lahiri.

He said after relaxing the terms of payment, another two land parcels of CTC at Tollygunj (4 acre) and Belgachia (52 cottah) will ready for the hammer soon.

Lahiri said the company proposed to utilise the land parcels for installing substations to boost the power distribution network in metropolis.

CESC was working to build a backbone to meet power demand up to 3,000 MW from 1,900 MW at present.

Meanwhile, Mitra said helicopter service to Sunderbans will begin soon as part of air-link connectivity with towns and tourists spots.
