Centre Likely to Approve Elevated Road and Land Pooling Before Election Dates.

The central government is expected to approve two major infrastructure projects—the construction of an elevated road from INA to Mahipalpur bypass and the Land Pooling policy—before the announcement of election dates for Delhi. Sources confirmed that the financing model for the elevated road, aimed at alleviating congestion on the Ring Road, is in its final stages.

Discussions have been ongoing for several months regarding the 14 km-long corridor, which has been under planning since 2021. One key consideration has been whether parts of the proposed route should be built underground due to heavy traffic on the existing network, as any construction could worsen traffic jams. A decision on the project is anticipated within the next two weeks.

The elevated road project aims to ease congestion around the seven Government Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) colonies along the Ring Road, including Nauroji Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Mohammadpur, Thyagraj Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Srinivaspuri. The redevelopment of these residential and commercial areas is also underway. Initially estimated to cost ₹5,000 crore, the funding for the project is expected to come from the National Buildings Construction Corporation.
