Cement sales up for 2 groups

Mumbai: The Ambuja and AV Birla groups have reported increased year-on-year cement despatches for April 2006 although the percentage increases show wide variation.

The AV Birla group's despatches rose 6.08 per cent in April 2006 at 26.28 lakh tonnes (lt) (24.77 lt). The group's production rose by 8.53 per cent for the month to 26.76 lt. Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd reported a sales increase of 16 per cent, shipping 13.29 lt this April (11.44 lt). Production rose by 17 per cent to 13.20 lt.

Gujarat Ambuja Eastern reported a 10 per cent increases in despatches, shipping 1.94 lt (1.76 lt); and a 25 per cent increase in production, manufacturing 2.11 lt (1.69 lt).
