CCMB plans Bibio safety facility in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) is floating global tenders to identify the architect and developer for the proposed Rs 100-crore National Bio-Safety Containment Facility in Hyderabad.

The facility to come up on a five-acre land is being funded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Department of Science and Technology (DST), and is expected to help pharma companies and scientific institutes. Dr Lalji Singh, Director, CCMB, which is creating the facility, said pharma companies wanting to use animal models for vaccine development, test drugs and so on, will benefit. The CDC, Atlanta and a Canadian lab have come forward to offer collaborative help.

A leading French institute has also come forward with an offer to train people at the Biological Containment (Level 4) facility, he told an Indo-French Conference on RNAi in Genome Control today.
