CARE Hospitals gets Rs 6-cr CTA machine

Hyderabad: Care Hospitals group has acquired a Rs 6 crore CT Coronary Angiography (CTA), or Dual Source CT, machine that helps cardiologists to get assess a quicker and clearer assessment of coronary arteries. The noninvasive assessment allows the patients to get the examination done as out-patients, without involving any significant risk. Dr B. Soma Raju, Chairman, said that in most cases coronary artery disease manifested itself as a sudden cardiac arrest. 'Using CTA, we can get an assessment quickly, saving on time,' he added.

While stating that it was a boon for cardiac patients, Dr Ravi Battina, a senior cardiology consultant, however, cautioned against using this procedure for women below 30-32 years of age, and also child-bearing women, keeping in mind the radiation hazard it might pose.
